Something New on my Design Wall

I've been away from my studio for weeks (maybe even months) and I was a bit nervous about getting back into things.  I started to pick out fabrics for a piece I'm making for a Fiber Revolution exhibition; good work, but not what I was in the mood for.  Instead, I picked up a TAP transfer that's been languishing on my wall and started to pick through fabrics to go with it.  Lo and behold, the ugliest -- and I do mean the ugliest -- fabric ever was actually a pretty good fit.  I screenprinted this very ugly fabric at a studio workshop with Rayna Gillman.  It's not her fault at all; I mixed and muddied my colors.  But somehow, it seems to fit the mood and feel of what I'd like to do.  I haven't pieced it all together yet, but I like the direction this is going.  What do you think?

Wow, I love the contrast between the "muddy" brown and the golden yellow! It's really starting out quite striking looking - can't wait to see where you'll go with it! Great way to get back into the swing!

Oooh! It makes it pop and I like the contrast in texture....the fluffiness of the seed heads contrasts with the sharp lines of the background fabric, yet, in some essences carries the spikey motif you KNOW is in the seed head. Go for it!

Not ugly at all and I like the way it looks with your TAP transfer. Doesn't it feel good to be back in the studio?

I was in the class with you......I didn't think your fabric was ugly........mine was! But this looks really interesting and a good use of it........wonderful! Gives me hope!

I agree that the fabric looks great with the print, proving my opinion that there is no such thing as ugly fabric, just ugly combinations.

The contrast between your "ugly" fabric and the yellow is fabulous! You're right, it works very well.
