Purple against Blue Skies

The weather in the Carmel Valley has been absolutely perfect for the growing season. The gardens were glorious. I think this flower looks a bit like a purple helicopter. I'm sure that's not what it's called; do you know what it is? Is it related to lavender? I just love the shape and the colors.
