Blurry shore bird -- so close and yet so fuzzy!

When we were in California a few weeks ago I took some nice photos with my iPhone.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get a single focused picture with my big camera.  (see above)

Not good.

I must have done something wrong but didn't have a clue how to fix it.  Yesterday, I erased all my settings and pulled out my manual.

I'm starting fresh.  Working my way through the manual and the book are going to be on my to-do list for the next few weeks.

Maybe it's premature for me to join that local photography group....
