Looks like a red lily beetle, Lilioceris lilii. Apparently they hiss when annoyed. Its grubs are destructive to lily plants. Handsome specimen, though!
Destructive isn't the word...my neighbor in Connecticut's lilies were wiped out by this little red beastie! Sue is absolutely correct in her ID.
KILLL (they are an import and doing significant damage to the native lily populations as well as the oriental and asiatic lilies.) So far, they haven't reached Ohio....but I rue the day and am sure it will get here sometime soon.
It looks like the lily beetle to me, too. I asked at the garden center last year after they had done a lot of damage and they told me to use Sevin and it worked. This year as soon as I saw ONE, I sprayed and I have had no damage.
